Swimming Studies
A series of paintings of women swimming in snow. Swimming has long felt like a familiar language to me. I swam when I was younger, and the gesture has stayed with me. I am drawn to gestures taken out of context, where something ordinary becomes poetic. There is absurdity in entering the cold, and a playfulness in that choice. The work speaks to a relationship with nature, but also holds parallels to lived experience and its vulnerability, the way we move forward, sometimes against the current.
